Time Out Shanghai (Time Out Guides)

Shanghai is in the throes of a rapid metamorphosis as it constructs and remodels for the Expo 2010. Written by journalists who live in Shanghai, this guide takes visitors past the tourist traps to the best, most stylish buys in bijou boutiques, big-name designer outposts, and teeming street markets. The Times (London) picked the previous edition as the best guidebook to Shanghai, and this edition improves it with expanded information on where to stay and eat — a must with scores of new hotels and restaurants opening.

Absolutely fantastic – a must – Shanghai tour

My mother and I took the Best of Everything tour in August and it was fantastic. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Suzy will take you to a range of shops and markets, and only to ones that she trusts the quality of their products and is confident that they will deliver the items. You will save money by getting the best prices, guaranteed high quality and learning to bargain.

We brought clothes from home to have copied at the fabric market (business shirts, suit and casual skirts). Suzy took us to the people that she trusted to do a good job. We were staying a few days so the tailors had the time to make the clothes and deliver them to our hotel four days later. All our original clothes and new items were delivered promptly (from three different shops) and looked great.

We went to a silk factory and purchased silk quilts, which are like heaven to sleep under. We had them sent home and they were there when we arrived home two weeks later. We both purchased pearls and it was great to be able to create what we wanted – the size, length etc.

Other stops included a modern china shop (gorgeous stuff there), a large gift shop, the pearl market, dvd shop and a general market for clothes/bags etc.
Suzy was simply fantastic. She has a wonderful personality, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and speaks mandarin. She is the sort of person who can carry a conversation with anyone. We had a small group and she made sure she met everyone’s needs and spent time with each of us helping us negotiate purchases. The lunch included was fantastic too.

We booked this tour for our first day in Shanghai and it was a great way to get to know Shanghai as Suzy told us all about the city’s history, culture and customs. She also provided us with advice as to things we had to do during our stay (the Acrobatics in particular were fantastic – we wouldn’t have gone otherwise) and restaurants to eat at. Try to do this tour as early as possible in your stay.

This tour is a must when visiting Shanghai. We saved a fortune and had a great time.

Fabulous shopping with a fun lady & delicious food in Shanghai

I had such a wonderful time with Suzy on our shopping tour while in Shanghai! Suzy was an excellent shopping guide helping us understand the reasonable price range we may expect to pay for everything that we were looking for. She also helped us hone our own bargaining skills with a quick language and bartering lesson. This is a perfect way to get your shopping done all in one day if need be. I was in Shanghai for a longer period of time so I was happy to go on this tour to get an idea of what was available in Shanghai, pick up some wonderful deals on the tour, and learn of other places to go on my own with my new found skills. We went to so many places in one day! This would have been very hard to organize on your own if you could even find all of the places and at least one you could only attend if you were in a group. Suzy even filled us in on some Chinese etiquette and a little Shanghai history. As a bonus, not only was the shopping good, but the Shanghainese restaurant where we ate lunch was delicious! It’s rare that you go on a tour and the food is decent and even more rare that the food is a culinary delight. This restaurant was a zagat rated 23 for food! So yummy! I highly reccomend this fabulously fun tour!
